Umbria hilltown guided tours / Narni
Narni, Hidden Secrets
Don’t miss Narni, medieval hilltown of Roman origins (about one hour from Assisi) whose truly “hidden secrets” are to be savored – before mass tourism arrives (as of now, only one place to find a postcard or two!). Narni’s fascinating cathedral incorporates an array of intriguing Roman and early Christian heritage, including remnants of Roman wall, an early Christian tomb, Lombard reliefs, medieval frescoes, mosaics, Baroque marble inlay wonders – and more.
Wander the stunning medieval backstreets up to the 14th – c fortress. Be sure to explore (with the assistance of a local expert) recently-discovered subterranean curiosities: an incredible sight to be seen, not explained beforehand! You’ll want to enjoy a buonissimo lunch of Narni area specialties – in an outdoor courtyard.
NB: I’m often asked about my favorite Umbrian hill town: not easy to say but.. this is certainly one of them!)
