Todi, 'the World’s Most Livable City' (full-day)

Come with me to Todi to discover why this Umbrian hilltown has been baptized “the world’s most livable city.”

Perched on a double-crested hill overlooking the Tiber River, Todi commands splendid views in every direction.

Overlooking the valley below, a magnificent Renaissance church seems a stalwart guard near the entrance to Todi. Our stop here is the perfect introduction to Todi splendors.

Stately medieval civic palazzi encircle the main square, one of Umbria’s most charming piazzas, built on the site of Roman edifices.
Intriguing and even bizarre sculptures adorn a medieval church we’ll visit, dedicated to Todi’s patron saint, San Fortunato.

In Todi, we’ll discover contemporary as well as medieval art treasures before a pause for lunch in a local trattoria, a favorite of “the locals.”

World-famous artists have been attracted to this “most livable city” and we’ll discover the work of an esteemed American sculptor in a Todi park dedicated to her as well as a “painted house,” an on-going project for years of an Irish art critic and his American wife.

Then, after uncovering subterranean curiosities in the 13th-century cathedral, we’ll head to the astounding Casa Dipinta (Painted House), for years the “on-going” project of the Irish art critic, writer and artist living there with his American wife, a noted art historian and author.
