Cooking IS Communicating...

Cooking IS Communicating...

I’ve been offering cooking lesssons of Umbrian rural cuisine in private homes since 1998 – when Cathleen from San Anselmo invited me to bring Umbria’s flavors into her kitchen.

I’ve never yet had a stated U.S Tour “theme” but I think that I will this year: “Cooking IS Communicating.”

Fascinating Umbrian culinary historian Nadia Marconi says it best: “Food is a language, a way of communicating… You have to put your soul into food… Aromas, flavors, colors all transmit messages – such a perfect form of communication! Let us educate our youth, our children to the flavors of food as communication.“

This year’s “theme” has always been there: all past cooking classes have drawn people together, formed new bonds, led to new ways of communication. Each one has been a joy, no matter what the location! I’ve cooked in private homes all over the country, in cooking schools in Reno and in Phoenix, in a restaurant in Madison, Wisconsin, on a Texas ranch, in schools with the little ones, in church kitchens. I’ve cooked in large, fully-equipped kitchens and in tiny ones: in a New York City apartment and in the galley-sized kitchen of a tiny Boston brownstone.

The space doesn’t matter. The bonds form, no matter what the space.

    H Anne,

I would love to attend the Feb. 9 class in Laguna Niguel. What time will the class start? I am teaching a class until 2:00 that day in San Diego, but hope this will be an evening class, which I could easily make. Please let me know.

I also have a lot of friends and family in the Bethesda area who love to cook. One of my cousins, Paula Jacobson, is a cookbook editor and teaches cooking classes also. I will forward your email to them and encourage them to attend while you are in DC-they are a lot of fun.

I will send a separate email about your apartment. My husband and I would like to take it for May 21-24. More in another email…

    Ciao,

    Michele

  • Ciao, Anne:

I have pencilled in your Washington DC cooking class — can you give me more details about timing and cost and location so I can start to make plans? I am going to contact Kathy McCabe at Dream of Italy and see if she would like me to do a story about you and the class . . . might be good PR!

    Hi Anne,

Are the SF dates for cooking classes arranged yet? I couldn’t find them in my recent emails from you. Also would you be giving a kid’s cooking class in SF? Our granddaughter (age 13) LOVES to cook. It might be fun for her to join me in a class – or be in her own cooking class…

    Thanks,
    Janet

  • see you in DC, LInda…and Janet, hope to see you in SF?
