What a joy to be the “excuse” for a family reunion! I had been the tour guide for Ron and Liz on a couple Umbria trips – and Umbria recently came alive in their Rancho Santa Fe (California) home through a cooking class for their eight children (and spouses). Our class started off with an all-family photo of this enthusiastic, warm and welcoming family group, each cook outfitted in an apron from Italy with name embroidered on it (a few in chef hats with names, too). Bellissimo! (And even better than name tags in helping me remember all the names).
This Umbrian feast came together in record time as all eight children and spouses (except those busy caring for their own children – 8 grandchildren in the house, too…) connected while mixing and whisking, chopping and slicing, sharing sips of wine, good laughs and conversation.
But they can tell you all about it – here are a few comments:
“Thank you so much for bringing out entire family together for an incredible experience! The food was amazing. You are delightful.” Chris and Tina
“Thank you so much for the cooking class and the cultural perspective.” Jonathan
“…a great experience. The whole family enjoyed this culinary adventure.” Eric
“Thank you for the incredible lesson and cultural experience. Next trip to Italy, we will make Italy first on our list. The meal was delicious and we loved cooking and learning from you…” Dan and Bridgette
“Thank you for the opportunity to learn from you…a wonderful time and the food was amazing…” Stacey and Alex
“Thank you so much for the wonderful instruction. We had an amazing time learning from you… the meal… was amazing.” Jacob and Jane
“What did I learn today? Less is not more when cooking Umbria style. A handful of this and a splash of that and it all came out perfect. I could not believe how good it all tasted after I cooked the chicken and peppers.” Jason and Tyra
…and from Mom Liz:
“Thank you so much for a wonderful time. I could do this every day.”
