I asked Lorenzo, owner (with all his family) of Hotel Il Parco in Sirolo about how business was this past rainy summer (the coldest, wettest in 240 years, they say) and he smiled, “Bene, grazie a Dio.”
He added, “We worked quite alot this summer as we have so many return clients who come back to us year after year.” Easy to see why: you feel part of Lorenzo’s family during a stay at their hotel.
Sirolo, perched over the Adriatic

On arrival on a late September Saturday night, Lorenzo’s wife Monica was at reception with their two daughters, Alessia and Silvia, and Lorenzo’s smiling mother, Giuliana. She looked tired – it had been a long day – but she welcomed us warmly. At breakfast the next morning, her daughter, Tania – Lorenzo’s sister – matched her mother’s warmth as she served us espressi and offered us aarray of home-baked sweets. Sister and brother – Lorenzo and Tania – take care of all the guests at breakfast, attentive to everyone’s needs. As soon as the cheese/ham platter started to empty, Lorenzo scurried to the kitchen to fill it up. I wandered past the kitchen as I headed to the garden out back for a few photos and was astonished to see huge pans filled with chickens and potatoes ready for roasting and other pans nearby filled with homemade lasagne. “Mamma’s making our lunch – and there are a lot of us in our family,” he grinned.

Pino and Lorenzo chatted out in front of the hotel before we left, sharing military memories: one of Lorenzo’s best friends during his military stint had been a siciliano, too. And they shared yet another common bond: Lorenzo’s father – like Pino – was a builder and had purchased the little Sirolo hotel (built in the early 20th-century) in the late 80’s, transforming it into the charming family-run hotel we’ve come to love.

After we checked out, we headed to our favorite beach in Sirolo, seaside gem dubbed “the Riviera of the Adriatic.” We know we’ll be back soon: Sirolo beckons. So does the Hotel Il Parco.
