I first met Patrick and Marilyn at a Loyola Chicago Rome reunion a couple years ago when they signed up for a tour day with me in Assisi, centered on our splendid May medieval festival, the Calendimaggio. Great to connect with them (and two of their friends, also on that tour) while cooking at their home in Pacifica (south of San Francisco). Patrick and Marilyn also welcomed others who had contacted me for a Bay area class with openings for additional participants. And so, once again, new friendships formed over cutting boards.
In a room adjacent to the kitchen, Roscoe, the pet parrot sat on his perch observing us and squawking (orders?) now and then as all paired up to cook our Umbrian rural feast.
We finished preparations at just about bedtime for Roscoe. Marilyn gave him a taste of the squash/sage/leek pasta sauce, then said “good night” and covered his cage. He went to bed without a squawk.
I guess he liked the sauce.

Anne, molto grazie for your quick wit, delicious recipes and nonstop amazing information about Umbria! I have never had so much fun with 11 people, one large parrot and one tiny Dachsund. We’re looking forward to seeing you in August. Still can’t believe my sister is getting MARRIED! You must send me your 2012 U.S. calendar dates as apparently I am hosting the dinner next year! Many, many thanks for an absolutely wonderful evening.
