When you walk Assisi, the medieval splendors leap out at you around every corner.
Panoramic vistas spread in the valley below.
You’ll want to try to capture the magic in your photos.
Today’s cameras seem to do a pretty good job.
And then you wander past the shop of Assisi-born photographer Andrea Angelucci.
The photos displayed in his studio are best described with the Italian word,“mozzafiato”,i.e., “cutting off the breath.”
Andrea’s passione for photography started at age eleven when older brother Giovanni received all needed for the set-up of a dark room as an 8th-grade graduation gift
– a gift from their father was forced to set aside his own youthful passione per la fotografia due the family’s meagre income.
Giovanni soon lost interest in the darkroom and photography: brother Andrea, young assistant, spent hours there, leaving behind the youthful caprices of friends for the emotion of seeing images coming out on photographic printing paper.
As he says, “Ero felice perchè finalmente per la prima volta nella mia vita stavo ‘creando’ qualcosa” (“I was happy because I was finally creating something for the first time in my life).”
Andrea’s Umbria photos astound:
Andrea has presented his photos of Assisi to many esteemed Assisi visitors:
Andrea’s wedding photos embody happy memories of an important day:
We loved our visit to Assisi and our conversation with artist Andrea. He was very engaging. We are thrilled with our beautiful photo of the monastery at Assisi – it reminds us of the special time we had there.
