“Umbria” was all over Cathy and Jim’s Longmont home at our cooking class – and even before we started! A ceramic dish of the Perugia chocolates, Baci, was right there in the midst of all the vegetables, pots and pans, spoons and cutting boards on the countertops ready for our class. I recognized, too, a brightly colored FIMA maiolica platter from Deruta (a memento of our Perugia/Deruta tour together) and a visit downstairs to Jim’s wine cellar brought back a flood of memories. Some of their most treasured wines were from our wine-tasting in Spello (part of our first – of three – Umbrian hilltown tour together a few years ago).
Caren and Ron had joined in those tours, too and co-hosted this dinner of Umbrian – and Sicilian – goodness. Thanks to all four of you for inviting me to cook with you once again – (this was our second Colorado cooking reunion)- and thanks for also including my childhood friends, Barb and Sal. Mille grazie, too, to each cook who united to put the feast together. And so glad to have four hungry teen-aged boys to affirm that our cooking pleased the palate.
The most memorable moment for me? When Jim took over the flipping of our leek frittata – with the pizza paddle from their outdoor bread oven!
