The island of Ventotene has just two beaches: Cala Rossana and Cala Nave.
And then there’s “the last beach”: the bookstore on the main piazza, “Ultima Spiaggia.”
It’s often the last stop after a day on the beach – or a day of snorkeling in Ventotene’s pristine coves – but the bookshop can also be an early morning stop.
And not just for adults, but for children, too.
Thanks to Fabio Masi, born on Ventotene, the island becomes a “literary island’ from spring to early fall. Vacationers gather there not just to browse beachside reading material but also to attend the evening lectures Fabio often sponsors…..
In late September, Fabio closes up the bookshop and heads to Genova for the winter season, running his bookstore there,
But in springtime, the island calls again….and he heads “home”, back to his island of Ventotene.
