As summer rolls around, we’ll spend many a week-end at Bolsena on Lake Bolsena.

And no week-end is complete without a lakefish feast at Trattoria Da Picchietto in the back courtyard.
Host Mario greets all guests, takes orders and serves up the goodness along with his beaming son, Emanuele

This “family affair” starts in the stone-vaiulted kitchen where Mario’s lovely wife Anna and daughter Monica cook up the goodness.

And the family links don’t end there: you might see Mario’s grandson filling up wine flasks and waitress Teresa buzzing around the dining room is also a relative.

Teresa serves up la sbroscia, a lake fish soup – and coregone pasta
Even though this trattoria is known for its coregone, a Lake Bolsena, whitefish, Teresa knows Pino will order seafood – steamed mussels – as an antipasto. I might order prosciutto and melon or just order a primo: pasta with coregone pine nuts and olives – buonissimo. Grilled coregone is always our second course choice: how to pass it up?
