I came back to our Assisi farmhouse the other day with my hat full of Umbria’s “black gold,” truffles.
After a recemt morning caffe’ at the nearby Ristorante Da Giovannino……
….I ran into Loris, just back from hunting truffles – and what a find!
…..thanks to Quark, talented spring spaniel truffle pup:
After his early morning work, Quark rested for a moment on the lawn nearby with Uma, Loris’ other truffler, also a prized truffle dog:
After taking photos of the dogs and the larger truffles, I aimed at the smaller truffles, spread out on the hood of Loris’ car:
“Portali a casa, Anna,” Loris told me with a beam. Take them home? Mamma mia. Loris was serious.
What a gift,
Those truffles went home with me in my straw hat:
The next day, they starred in our simple summer night dinner: uova strappazzate con tartufo (“scrambled eggs with truffle”):
