In Orvieto, That Swinging Spaghetti
New this year at the late December Umbria Jazz Winter festival in Orvieto: spaghetti whipped up on stage for the public as the five young musicians of Spaghetti Swing – a Cooking Concert brought alive the music and 1950’s life style of Italy, land of la dolce vita.
And why not this connubium of spaghetti and music? Molto italiano: the perfect way to bring in il Nuovo Anno here in Italy.
On December 31st, Pino and I joined in the Spaghetti Swing’s noontime concert in the medieval palazzo, Palazzo dei Sette. Good times, tasty spaghetti (though wish there was more!) and catchy sing-along music that soon had the public up and dancing. One of the two female vocalists started off the dancing fun, grabbing a teen in the audience:
…and she’d also crooned a Naples love song to Pino!
If you’re ever in Italy when Spaghetti Swing is on stage, enjoy the spaghetti-making – and eating! – to catchy swinging music:
