Kathy, Steve – and daughter, Carolyn – hard to believe that this was the sixth time commemorating our time together in Umbria through cooking up Umbrian rural goodness.
From the astounding floral carpets in Spello years ago to yet another memorable cooking class united in your Washington apartment: our links remain.
Kathy, thanks for your warm summary of our cooking ties: “Six years; seven hosting; eight dinners. A highlight of my year! You prompt us to invite interesting, different people to spend an afternoon or evening cooking together. Thanks. Hope to see you next year…again!”
….and I hope to see you again, too, next year. In the meantime, I’ll be savoring the memorable moments this year:
..and here’s one of our favorite recipes: la caponata
Mille grazie to each of you enthusiastic participants – and I am grateful for your warm comments:
“Fantastic experience!” Martha C.
“Great food, great people!” Diane G.
“What a treat to finally meet you and enjoy your infectious enthusiasm for good friends and Italy!…” Marilyn S.M.
“It’s so wonderful to be in the Appels’ lovely apartment – and to see Annie again. Many thanks for the delicious food, for the fabulous company and hosts, and for Anne’s willingness to cross the pond each year to share her adopted country’s culinary gifts with us.” Stephanie C.
“Fabulous food, Annie! You always delight – I so enjoyed the day – (and) hope to do this again next year.” Marybeth E.
“Che buona festa! Thank you so very much” Jenny B.
“Thank you so much for a wonderful experience. See you soon!” Charles (“Mac”) M.
Thanks to everyone who joined us for our seventh meal in six years! But most of all, to Annie, who we have loved staying in touch with and cooking with since we met in 2007. Looking at these pictures reminds me what a wonderful time we had. Without you all, it just wouldn’t have been the same!
For the first time this year, I also made several of the recipes in the weeks after the class. They never taste quite the same — no one can add ingredients “qb” like Annie — but were still fantastic, and got lots of complements from those with whom we shared our meal.
Mille grazie, Kathy, for tour note and thanks to all for joining in !
Kathy, keep cooking: that “qb” will work itself out!
