Tour guests, Kerry and her parents, Judie and Bill, joined in recently for a banquet with rural friend near Deruta, Giuseppa.
The family prosciutto with an organic melon was just a tidbit as a starter.
Little did they know what was to come!
A buonissima pasta all’amatriciana followed: the tomatoes, onions, garlic, olive oil..and pancetta (bacon) used in the sauce were all from their land, logicamente.
After our primo piatto, a beaming Giuseppa soon carried from her adjacent kitchen a tray of oven-roasted pork with potatoes: yes, all ingredients from their land.
….and what a delight for Judie those Giuseppa tomatoes accompanying:
Bill pointed to those tomatoes and said with a twinkle in his eye, “My wife so loves tomatoes”:
Italian cuisine always please the eye as well as the palate.
An affirmation? Giuseppa’s zuppa inglese dessert served in bellissima Deruta maiolica which crowned our “simple” rural feast:
