I’d heard about Ristorante La Lumaca D’Oro (Golden Snail Restaurant) at Cantalupo, tiny town near Bevagna – and knew Pino would enjoy dinner there: give him snails in any way, any time!
Inside, families were feasting on snails, cooked up in all sorts of ways including bruschetta alle lumache, salad of farro and snails, porcini mushrooms and snails, involtini di melanzane e lumache (eggplant roll-ups stuffed with snails), and snails on the spit, Pino’s choice. (With roast potatoes on the side – no snails).
Snail-wise, my tastes are tame: can do pasta with a sauce of snails. And the Ristorante’s was a tasty dish, as was the side salad of celery, radicchio and pecorino cheese.
Dessert? I tried a refreshing panna cotta and Pino opted for his favorite: sorbetto di limone. (A good digestivo after snails!)
