When I first took Pino to see the small apartment in the Assisi backstreets, he exclaimed, “Mamma mia! Perche’ mai vorresti questa piccionaia? (Why would you ever want this pigeonhole?)”
I grinned and replied, “ah, you just gave me an idea for the name: a ‘nest’…but this will be a ‘tranquil nest’.
As our guests will tell you, it now certainly IS a “tranquil nest”:
But when Pino and I first saw the apartment, a stretch of the imagination was needed to envision the haven the apartment could become. The bedroom had once looked like this:

Just off the sitting room is a fully-equipped kitchen now which once looked like this:
The artisan crafts of Assisi – and all of Umbria – are everywhere in the apartment and surround our guests: the maiolica, textiles, olive wood, art work of local artists, hardbound books, wood inlay:








Our Nido is in the quiet medieval backstreets of Assisi just off the main square, walls draped with jasmine in late springtime:
