Visso Awaits a Post-Earthquake Resurrection

Date: July 17, 2018 - categories: , - 2 Comments

With 90% of the elegant Renaissance buildings lacerated in the October 2016 earthquake, Marches region hilltown gem Visso awaits a resurrection.

The town is now  zona rossa  and cordoned off:

……. and the merchants must welcome their customers from small wooden pre-fab shops outside the devastated town:

The butcher now slices prosciutto, grinds meats, debones rabbits, makes his strings of savory local sausages for customers here:

…and dreams of returning one day to his macelleria here:

Nicoletta, the hairdresser, now coifs Visso signore here in her tiny wooden pre-fab:

I’m not sure where she once received customers…maybe in a shop on the main street:

….or perhaps in one of the charmjng labyrinthine backstreets:

May a Visso resurrection return this mountainside gem soon to its glory,  the butcher and hairdresser once again welcoming customers in buildings of Renaissance splendor.

    Anne –
Michael Krasner, my primary care physician, returning from a visit there, told me of your medical problems that halted your blogs earlier this year. I’m delighted you have recovered to continue some of them as it freshens my recall of our glorious Elderhostel experiences with you there in 1996. I wish you best of health and send my wishes for continued adventures there.

    Stay well, Jim!
