To fully experience Umbria, “Italy’s green heart,” you’ll have to connect with the people. Meet our rural neighbors, those most directly connected to our Umbrian land. Each one, a “national” (as well as “regional”) treasure.
Peppa opens not just her wine cellar but her heart to you as well.
Ugo – over eighty – might be hauling hay to his cows when we visit. Beaming wife Emma will take the time to share a few of her stories
And on we go to visit another octogenarian, Peppe, who’ll show us with pride all his animals, including his pigs – and then, the prosciutti they’ll become!
We’ll stop at our restored farmhouse for a bruschetta snack while we talk more about rural life and then, on to the gran finale: a rural banquet dinner with dear rural friends, Chiarina and Marino. Their lovely daughter, Rossanna, will probably be in the kitchen with mamma Chiarina, helping out.
…and here are more special moments of our rural banquet:
Take home Umbria with you when you leave Italy. You will: if you meet the rural people.
Our best friends.
…and those joining me in rural visits know why our rural friends are treasured:
“A wonderful rural experience. Not the typical historical tour, it gave us a very personal and authentic view into rural Italian life. The people we met were warm and welcoming and were happy to show off their farms and share their wine. Of course, the highlight was the four course farm-to-table dinner. Not only was the dinner exceptional, but the warmth of Rosanna and her family, welcoming these five people into their home as strangers, and departing as friends. This was also the highlight for Claire, who felt she has made a friend for life in Rosanna and Cinnamon, a dog that we met at one of the farms.” Ken D.
