What’s the most memorable moment of an afternoon visiting our rural friends?
Meeting Peppe as he’s picking his olives?
…seeing his pride in his olive harvest abundance?
…taking a whiff of that olio novello (“new olive oil”), just back from the mill…?
…or seeing the pride Peppe has in his prosciutti?
Meeting Peppe’s daughter Paola as she makes the typical Umbrian flatbread, la torta, adds to the joy of rural visits, too:
…and especially, tasting that torta with Peppe’s prosciutto and his own vino rosso:
And an added highlight to a stop at Peppe’s? Seeing the wild mushrooms he’s just picked that Paola will cook up for dinner:
Of course, no visit to our rural friends is complete without a visit to Peppa:
….and then, time for a snack at our house (maybe bruschetta with our olive oil and last ripe tomatoes):
And the highlight of rural visits to our farm friends is a rural banquet for lunch (or dinner) with Chiarina and Marino:
…and then comes the wild boar Marino hunted, the pork they raised – and wild chicory picked by Chiarina
But what’s the most memorable highlight of rural visits, bringing you right to the people of Umbria? Dario and Domenic (from Pennsylvania) might be able to tell you…
(And thanks to you both for your warmth and enthusiasm during rural visits on a recent November day).
