When Pino and I eat at home during these hot August nights, dinner is light. My favorite dinner? Prosciutto and melon and Pino’s goats’ milk cheese on our tomatoes, right from the garden on wheat bread. Our olive oil drizzled on top, logicamente. A bit of salt, too, and diced basil.
Not all our dinners are light, though! Now and then, Peppa asks us over for “qualcosa di leggero. Ho poco stasera” (“something light – I have very little this evening”). Ha. Who could ever believe Peppa?
Here’s a recent cena di poco (“dinner of very little”):
Her pasta with fresh tomato sauce was followed with meats – chicken raised by Peppa and sausages of a friend – roasted in the oven with potatoes:
…and salad on the side:
All I would have needed was that salad: hair cucumbers and tomatoes, olive oil and one of the purple onions Pino grew this year:
Peppa chuckled as I thanked her for the “light dinner”:
