You might “save the date” for a wedding, an anniversary or another milestone. And when coming to Umbria, make your stay unforgettable by “saving the date(s).” Which ones? Time your trip to include a wondrous festival. They animate Umbria nearly all year round as you can see here.
Here are a few of Umbria’s “star” festivals:
Good Friday in Assisi
Assisi’s medieval festival, Calendimaggio in early May
La Festa dei Ceri in Gubbio, May 15
Le Infiorate in Spello (sixty days after Easter, i.e., the Feast of Corpus Domini)
Bevagna’s late June medieval festival, il Mercato delle Gaite
Perugia’s Umbria Jazz festival in July
Foligno’s “First Courses” festival in late September
October 4, Feast of St. Francis in Assisi
Trevi’s “ Black Celery” festival, mid/late October
Assisi’s November olive oil festival, UNTO
Valtopina’s late November truffle festival
Christmastime in Assisi
Umbria Jazz, Orvieto, in late December/early January
…and food festivals – le sagre – animate Umbrian villages and hill towns from April to the end of November, each one centered on a local culinary star. The sagra “culinary litany” includes: a prized legume, wild asparagus, wines (of course!), la porchetta, cheeses, pici pasta, hot chili peppers, celery, olive oil (more than one festival!), local beans, mushrooms, hazelnuts, honeys, saffron, chestnuts, white truffles and black truffles. And that’s just a start…!
Whenever you come to Umbria, don’t miss sharing the Umbrian goodness with “the locals.”
