Pino headed to Norcia today to inspect a few job sites where earthquake restoration is needed. He took this photo of the Basilica di San Benedetto, only the façade survived the October 20, 2016 earthquake. Look at the “cage” now supporting it: an Italian engineering art masterpiece:
I’d asked Pino to bring us some Norcia pecorino cheese, too for not only is the Norcia sheep’s milk cheese a palate-tempter, but it’s time now to sustain the economy of those farmers and shepherds who have lost homes and stalls and are caught up in freezing temperatures, deep snowfalls now. Most of the Norcia specialty shops are closed now but the Ansuini family has a shop open.
And Pino didn’t pass up up their famous salami, nor the pecorino with black truffle.
He’ll be heading back there again soon. I hope to go along next time – and drop in on the Ansuini family….

Bravo Pino and to the fortitude of the people of Norcia!
I was impressed by that protective cage around the remains of the basilica. Ingenious! I know it will be a very lengthy process when it comes to the restoration, what a challenge! I’m glad you are having the pleasure of enjoying the specialty products of Norcia. Buon Appetito!
yes, amazing crafts work in that “cage” as Pino calls it….
